Woman taken to hospital after fire rips through flat

A woman was taken to hospital after a fire in a five-storey building last night.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at a flat in Pardoner Street, Southwark.

Half of the flat on the first floor of the five-storey residential building was damaged by fire.

One woman was rescued by firefighters from a first floor window – using a nine-metre ladder.

The London Fire Brigade’s (LFB) 999 control officers received 13 calls about the fire.

The first call came in at around 11pm and the fire was brought under control by around 1am this morning.

Crews from Dockhead, Dowgate, Old Kent Road and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

A spokesman for the LFB said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
