Woman fighting for her life after being hit by car during police chase

A woman remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition after she was hit by a car being chased by police yesterday afternoon.

At around 4pm a car being pursued by police, after failing to stop for officers, collided with a pedestrian in Baring Road, Grove Park.

Officers called for support from the London Ambulance Service. London’s Air Ambulance also attended.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital, where she remains in a life-threatening condition. Her next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.

He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later taken into custody, where he remains.

A spokesman for the Met said: “The Met’s professional standards team has been informed and a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”

The IOPC has been approached for comment.
