Charlton Athletic face anxious wait as striker set for hamstring scan
Michael Appleton has confirmed that striker Chuks Aneke will go for a scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he picked up in Charlton’s 4-0 win over Reading on Saturday.
Aneke was forced off in the 64th minute over the weekend, with Miles Leaburn coming on in his place.
The former Birmingham City forward, who has played six times this season and scored the opener in the win over the Royals, missed most of the second half of last season due to a hamstring problem.
“He will go for a scan tomorrow,” said Appleton ahead of the trip to Lincoln.
“It’s one of those types of injuries where if you leave it a couple of days, you get a better diagnosis.
“With most things, if the area has swelled up or if there has been bleeding in the area, it’s a lot more difficult to get a stronger diagnosis.
“Once we get the results back from the scan tomorrow, we will have a better idea.
“He seems to be in reasonable spirits. I know he has a little bit of history with his hamstring, but it’s one of them where we don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves and second-guess anything until we get the results.”
On loan Manchester City striker Slobodan Tedic and youngster Miles Leaburn, who has scored six goals in nine appearances this season, can both lead the line alongside Alfie May.
Tedic played wide right against Reading but was subbed at half-time and replaced by Tyreece Campbell.
“It’s good that we have those options,” added the former Blackpool boss.
“Teddy is definitely one who prefers to be in that central role.
“I’m aware of that – it certainly gives us that option in the central area.
“Miles has done that for us as well and he’s very comfortable.
“It’s good that we have those options and are able to use them.
“We have big games coming up as well where we’re going to need verity and options.”
