Welling United on nine-match winless league run after 1-1 draw at Weymouth

Once again, Welling United controlled large parts of a game but didn’t create enough chances to clinch all three points when the visited Weymouth in the National League South.
They shot themselves in the foot by conceding a bad goal on the stroke of half-time but levelled in the eighth minute of the second half through Kain Adom.
Adom scored from outside the penalty area, which illustrated a big Welling problem. They are not scoring enough goals from inside the area, either from goalmouth scrambles or well crafted tap-ins.
There were few chances in the opening 45 minutes for either side. Dan Roberts had a shot deflected wide for Weymouth before Antony Papadopoulos cut in and fired over for the Wings. Lachlan Bird had a header from a Papadopoulos corner saved by Jared Thompson then Amadou Kassarate met another Papadopoulos cross but his glancing header went beyond the far post.
In the last minute of the first half, the hosts went ahead. Ben Winterbottom and Jack Burchell had a communication breakdown and collided leaving Ben Thomson the easy task of rolling it into the unguarded net.
Early in the second half Roberts had a shot held comfortably by Winterbottom before Welling levelled. Adom created space for himself and buried it in the bottom corner from around 20 yards.
After that, Welling had a lot of possession but struggled to break down the Weymouth defence. Jephte Tanga got in behind but Thompson kept his low shot out with a stretched left leg then Adom cut in but fired over.
Tristan Abrahams shot over before a rare Terras break allowed Thomson a shot that Winterbottom held at the second attempt. Cameron Green sent a free-kick just wide for Welling before Thompson made a brilliant full-length save to keep out another free-kick, this time taken by captain Dominic Odusanya.
Substitute Enoch Muwonge shot over for Welling but the hosts almost nicked it at the end when Calvin Brooks met a corner but headed over from close range.
Danny Bloor’s Wings have another chance to claim an elusive National League South victory on Tuesday evening when they visit Dover Athletic.
