Les Noces – The Departure reimagined performed at Woolwich works
One hundred years after Stravinsky and Nijinska created the powerful masterpiece Les Noces, the iconic ballet is being reimagined by a contemporary dance collective.
Performed in its original combination of piano and percussion, Les Noces – The Departure, will be performed by the New Movement Collective at Woolwich works on January 13, and 14.
Woolwich Works is a cultural hub in the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. The venue opened its doors in September 2021, offering everything from large-scale concerts and comedy nights to family shows.
The contemporary ballet will feature more than 50 dancers, musicians, and singers from New Movement Collective, the Royal Academy of Music, and Opera Holland Park Chorus.
To accompany the evening’s programme, New Movement Collective has commissioned three composers and songwriters including Beatbox Champion MC Zani.
New Movement Collective is a group of dance artists who are constantly redefining the boundaries of choreography through ambitious, cross-disciplinary work.
Les Noces – The Departure continues their exploration into the relationship between performer and audience and has been supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
