Third man arrested over Uber driving stabbing and harassment offences

A man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after an Uber driver was stabbed in the chest last Thursday.

The Met said the Uber driver was stabbed twice in the chest, in Nightingale Lane, Clapham. 

His condition was assessed as not life threatening or life changing and he was released from hospital on the same day.

The suspect –  aged in his 30’s – was arrested yesterday. This is the third arrest in what the Met are calling a “linked series of offenses”.

It follows other incidents in October and November, where women were followed and attacked by a man in Clapham Junction, Brixton and Balham.

A man in his 20s, was arrested on Friday, at a house in Brixton on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and public order offences. He has since been bailed.

Another man – aged in his 30s – was arrested at the same address on suspicion of burglary in relation to an unrelated, ongoing investigation. Further enquiries led officers to also arrest him in relation to the series of other offences.

He has been charged with a number of burglary offences and remanded in custody.

The third man, arrested yesterday, remains in police custody.

Detective Superintendent Dan O’Sullivan said: “We recognise these incidents will have caused a lot of concern within the local community and wider and we are working around the clock to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding them.

“These are extremely serious offences that will have had a profound impact on the victims. Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for the force and we continue to pursue a number of enquiries in order to hold those responsible to account.
