33 1 ⁄3 Vinyl Exhibition showcase iconic vinyl albums at The Vinyl Cafe
Not too long ago it seemed as though the vinyl market was dead and buried. As digital downloads took over, the record seemed consigned to history.
But, in recent years vinyl records have made a comeback with ITV reporting a rise of almost one-third in sales in the UK in 2021 compared to the year before – reaching £86.5 million.
Now, a brand new exhibition showcasing iconic albums on vinyl released in 1990 is opening its doors to the public at The Vinyl Cafe in Tileyard Studios, Kings Cross.
The 33 1 ⁄3 Vinyl Exhibition has been curated by the Key Production Group, a music manufacturer for vinyl record pressing, design and packaging. The show brings together a selection of 33 albums from 1990 – 33 years after their release.
Open to the public from November 30 for two weeks, The Vinyl Cafe will be decorated with original 1990 album sleeves from artists such as Pixies’ Bossanova, Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection and Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches by Happy Mondays.
Karen Emanuel, chief executive of Key Production Group said: “The exhibition is a trip down memory lane to where it all started for us, when these records were the sounds of that time.
“But more than a look backwards, it’s a chance to celebrate the present and future of vinyl.
“We welcome everyone, 90s music fans old and new, to come by the Vinyl Cafe, grab a drink, and immerse themselves in a journey through vinyl!”
