‘We might’ – Crystal Palace boss makes January transfer window admission after Cheick Doucoure’s injury

Roy Hodgson has admitted Cheick Doucoure’s injury might see Crystal Palace review their January transfer window plans.

The 23-year-old Mali international looks set to be out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Luton Town.

Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure leaves the game after picking up an injury during the Premier League match at Kenilworth Road, Luton. Picture date: Saturday November 25, 2023.

Eberechi Eze also suffered ankle ligament damage and was forced off at Kenilworth Road in the second half. The Greenwich-born attacker is set to be out for up to four weeks due to the injury.

Hodgson admitted after the summer window closed that the Eagles missed out on two players who were “pretty much assured” to be joining the club.

Asking about adding to his squad, Hodgson said: “We were talking about that anyway.

“Once we eventually got our squad together, and with one or two things we wanted to happen in the summer, which didn’t quite happen, when we looked at the squad, especially in terms of the number of senior players, we thought we were a bit short.

“We, Steve [Parish], Dougie [Freedman] and myself, talked even then thatm come January, we need to be looking at doing something about this [addressing the number of senior players] as best as we can.

“Nothing has changed in that respect.

“Now, with what has happened in particular to Cheick Doucoure, we might have to add a player to that.”
