Crystal Palace chief Steve Parish makes January transfer window admission

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish says the club will mainly target loan deals in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Eagles have lost Cheick Doucoure for up to six months due to a ruptured Achilles injury he suffered in the 2-1 defeat at Luton.

Palace signed Dean Henderson, Matheus Franca, Rob Holding and Jefferson Lerma last summer, but they failed to replace Wilfried Zaha after he turned down a club-record contract of £200,000 a week to sign for Champions League side Galatasaray.

“It’s experience (we’re looking for),” Parish, who was speaking before Palace’s Premier League clash at home to Bournemouth, told Amazon Prime.

“We’ve got to cover Cheick. He’s a really important player – our Player of the Year last year. 

“We’ll be looking maybe more for loans. I wouldn’t say we won’t buy anybody but that (loans) is what we’re going into the market for.

“You can have plans, but until you get to the market and see what happens, it’ll dictate what you do. We’ve definitely got to get cover, maybe on the left-hand side as well.

“We want to be doing slightly better than we are doing. We want to push into the top 10, we’ve had a difficult run with injuries. Maybe because of longer games and more stoppages for VAR. We’ve had important injuries, Michael (Olise) didn’t come back for a long time, Ebs (Eberechi Eze) is out again and Cheick Doucoure is out for the season.”
