Player ratings from QPR’s 2-0 win against Hull City – Chair shines again as Rangers make it three wins in a row

QPR recorded a third-consecutive Championship win after seeing off Hull City 2-0 at Loftus Road on Saturday.

A first-half Chris Willock strike was added to by a goal from Ilias Chair midway through the second half as Rangers moved within two points of Championship safety.

Here are Dan Evans’ player ratings from Loftus Road.

Asmir Begovic – 7

 Was called into action sporadically but always rose to the occasion. Made straightforward stops from Liam Delap before two impressive saves to deny both Scott Twine and Sean McLoughlin as he registered back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season.

Reggie Cannon – 7

Looked set for a difficult afternoon up against in-form Hull winger Jaden Philogene, getting beaten a couple of times early on. However, soon adjusted to the task and limited Philogene’s influence. Was replaced in the second half by Kakay.

Steve Cook – 8

Continues to be the defensive lynchpin upon which most of Marti Cifuentes’ early success has been built. Made three blocks, three clearances and two interceptions, all while remaining composed in possession amid an aggressive Hull press.

Jake Clarke-Salter – 8

Obvious to see that he makes QPR smoother in possession thanks to his comfort on the ball, but also proved to be a reliable defensive presence. Showed his elegance late in the first half when he intercepted in the middle of the park before setting Willock away down the left.

Kenneth Paal – 6

Not his busiest afternoon in a defensive sense as Philogene was forced off injured just minutes after switching to his side. Corner taking was more accurate than in recent weeks, and almost picked out Lyndon Dykes with a lovely cross from a set-piece taken short.

Andre Dozzell – 6

Another who did not have to have a massive impact as Hull largely controlled midfield without threatening a great deal further forward. Almost punished late on after being caught in possession by Aaron Connolly.

Sam Field – 7

As usual, went about his business with little fuss and still managed to prevent Hull having too many opportunities to test the QPR defence even though Chair and Willock sometimes left him without cover in midfield.

Ilias Chair – 9

Was the game’s outstanding player throughout, doing a disciplined job man-marking Hull’s Jean Michael Seri in the first half whilst also helping drive QPR forward thanks to his dribbling. Doubled his side’s lead with a supremely confident first-time finish midway through the second half.

Paul Smyth – 6

Not the winger’s most impactful afternoon as QPR focused their attacks down the left to get the most out of Willock and Chair. Replaced by Sinclair Armstrong in the second half having only touched the ball 17 times.

Lyndon Dykes – 6

The big striker didn’t have his busiest afternoon as Hull starved the home side of possession for long spells. Still won two of his three aerial duels and won two tackles before being replaced by Ziyad Larkeche after the second goal as Cifuentes looked to shore things up.

Chris Willock – 8

Maybe it is too soon to say Willock is back to his very best but his delightful curling effort in first-half stoppage time gave QPR the lead and earned him a goal in three consecutive games for the first time since August 2022. Was not as involved as Chair but rarely gave possession away when he did get the ball and is clearly enjoying the freedom offered to him by Cifuentes. Also set up Chair’s goal with an accurate cross.

Sinclair Armstrong – 7

Had the desired impact from the bench as he set about giving the Hull defender’s a headache with his speed. Played a vital part in the second goal as he closed down ‘keeper Ryan Allsop to win back possession.

Ziyad Larkeche – 6

Brought on to limit Cyrus Christie’s forays forward and did so perfectly well.

Osman Kakay – 6

Again showed himself to be a solid defender when introduced in place of Cannon.
