Charlton Athletic agree contract termination with winger Charlie Kirk

Charlton Athletic have reached an agreement with Charlie Kirk to terminate his contract.

The Addicks spent £500,000 to sign the winger from Crewe in August 2021.

But Kirk struggled to impress under a number of different bosses at the South London club and had loan spells with both Blackpool and Burton Albion.

His deal ran until the summer of 2025.

“Charlie will be leaving us now and we wish him all the best going forward,” Charlton technical director Andy Scott told the South London Press. “It just hasn’t worked out for Charlie and we felt it best, for all parties involved, that we go our separate ways.

“That is the start of the rebuild to the squad and the changes we want to make to it.

“Sometimes it doesn’t work out and he had a tough time when he first joined the club. He’s never really established himself in the side. In fairness to him, he has trained completely professionally and he’s been excellent around the training ground. He has not caused us a minute’s problem.”
