Charlton Athletic boss quizzed about contract prospects for centre-back

Michael Hector is not doing his prospects of landing a new deal any harm with his recent displays for Charlton Athletic.

That is the verdict of Addicks head coach Michael Appleton, who was asked about the centre-back’s long-term future after today’s 1-1 draw against Burton Albion.

It was Hector’s cross which was headed home by Lloyd Jones for the summer signing’s first goal since his free agent move after his Cambridge United contract expired.

“I think with all the lads who are out of contract in the summer, the next two or three months is huge for them,” said Appleton.

“It’s too early to say that certain players are going to be here and looking to be part of my plans going forward. There are a few players within the group at the moment that are certainly doing enough to go ‘okay, I want to be a part of next season. I want to be a part of going forward’.

“Hec has been very consistent this year. Him and Lloyd have built up a bit of a partnership. If his performances continue in the same vein he is going to give himself every opportunity to do that.”
