Maritime Museum’s Ocean Court soon to be ‘off limits’ for a year
The central area under the glass roof of the National Maritime Museum will be closed to members of the public from March 11, while the glazing in the roof is replaced.
Regular visitors to the museum will know this area as ‘Ocean Court’.
The existing glass roof covering the central Ocean Court area is now 25 years old and requires a significant upgrading to counter the increasingly frequent overheating of the space underneath.
The museum itself is not closing – only the central area located under the glass roof will be unavailable to the public.
Other popular galleries, such as Nelson, Navy, Nation and Polar Worlds will remain open.
The refurbishment work is due to be completed in spring/summer 2025.
