Third person arrested in connection with Old Kent Road murder
A third person has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 47-year-old man on Tuesday.
A murder investigation was launched after police were called at around 6.50am to reports of an injured man in the Old Kent Road, Bermondsey.
Officers, London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service crews attended the scene, where they found a man suffering from knife injuries.
Despite the efforts of emergency services to save him, the victim died at the scene at around 7.30am.
Later that day a 54-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder. Both were taken to South London police stations before being released on bail.
A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday. He remains in police custody.
The stabbing took place inside a house close to where the victim was found by members of the public, the Met said.
A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course, the Met said.
Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan said: “Early indications are that the stabbing took place inside a residential address.
“While we are keeping an open mind concerning motive, it does appear that those present at the address at the time of the stabbing were known to each other and that there is no wider threat to the public.”
