‘We don’t want to be the victims’ – Joe Edwards sends QPR warning to Millwall squad

Millwall boss Joe Edwards has warned his side not to underestimate QPR and fall victim to their winless Championship run.

The west Londoners are winless in their last seven outings in the second tier and are 23rd in the table, five points from safety.

Millwall beat Marti Cifuentes’ side 2-0 at The Den on Boxing Day, with goals from Tom Bradshaw and Murray Wallace the difference.

The Lions are winless in their last two outings in all competitions but were unbeaten in five in the Championship following their defeat at home to Middlesbrough last weekend.

Millwall have sold out their away allocation at Loftus Road.

“Really looking forward to it,” Edwards told the South London Press.

“It was a great atmosphere on Boxing Day. It’s strange when you play a game this close together.

“We only played then a few weeks ago and it felt like there was quite a lot on that game.

“We got to a point where we were very close to them in the league table – both teams were in difficult moments – but since then, we have kicked on a bit more than they have.

“Nice being the away team in a London derby – there is a nice edge to it.

“I know the fans are looking forward to it with the sell out away end we have got.

“We need to make sure that we’re ready. Looking at QPR’s form, they haven’t won in quite a while.

“Previoulsy, when they went on a long run, which involved a manager change, without a win, they all of a sudden won three games in a row.

“We were getting a lot of plaudits for that recently when we did it, because it’s not easy for any team to win three games in a row in this league.  

“When you’re looking at where they’re at now, for us to go in with any sort of a relaxed feel into the game, compared to when we played them on Boxing Day, just because we have moved up a bit and they haven’t, that would be naive from us.

“We will go there with the confidence that we should have from a team that has definitely grown – we’re looking a better team in recent weeks. Although it’s two defeats in a row, there is still a lot of good about what we’re doing on the pitch.

“We go into it with that edge that this is a team who are not to be underestimated. Although they haven’t been winning games, we all know at some point that QPR will win a game – that’s how this league goes.

“We don’t want to be the victims of that this weekend.”
