George Saville back available for Millwall trip to QPR – as boss bemoans bad luck on Tom Bradshaw

George Saville is available for Millwall’s trip across the capital to face QPR tomorrow after serving his three-match ban, writes Richard Cawley.

The Northern Ireland international was sent off in the 1-0 win over Norwich City on December 29 with the Lions unsuccessful in overturning his red card – issued for bringing down Jon Rowe on a counter-attack.

“We’ve been light in numbers and Sav was starting every game,” said Millwall head coach Joe Edwards. “Not only did we lose what Sav was offering us, but also our bench didn’t feel particularly well-equipped in terms of experience that could really come on and impact the game.

“I spoke after the Boro match about what other teams are doing to impact the games – we’ve been light on our bench.

“So the addition of Sav and the fact that we will have Casper [De Norre), Brooke [Norton-Cuffy] and Muzza [Murray Wallace] in better condition puts us in a better place than we were last week, for sure.”

But Edwards will be without striker Tom Bradshaw at Loftus Road.

Millwall are awaiting results of a second scan today on the hamstring injury he suffered in training. The initial estimate is that the Wales international will be unavailable for up to five weeks.

Bradshaw suffered the setback after normal training had finished.

“It is really unusual – we were watching the footage with the medical staff,” said Edwards. “It is not from a big sprint or a change of speed, which you associate with hamstrings.

“It’s not the strike of the ball. He kind of leaves the floor to finish a cross – him and George Honeyman were just knocking about between the two of them – as he lands you see him hold that area, without it being even an awkward landing.

“Perhaps you put it down to a bit of load over the Christmas period but, having said, I rested him against Leicester the week before.

“It’s one of those ones you feel really frustrated by.”
