Bolton Wanderer’s boss reacts to win over Millwall

BY JAKE SANDERS

Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson admitted the margin of victory for his side could have been greater against Millwall on Saturday.

Two goals in 15 second-half minutes from Pawel Olkowski and Gary O’Neil scored put Wanderers 2-0 ahead in a game for the first time since this season.

And Bolton missed a host of chances to put the game to bed before Lee Gregory coolly flicked home his tenth goal of the campaign with three minutes remaining.

But Parkinson’s men held on for their first home league victory of 2019 and moved to within five points of Championship survival.

“It was a great win for us,” he said. “We know what Millwall are about.”

“First-half, we had the better moments and first half we looked good when we got Sammy on the ball. But at half time I said to the lads we have done okay but we can do better.

“I thought we raised our game 10 per cent, each individual, and it was a terrific 15 minutes after half time where we got the goals.

“We could have had more after that, could have killed the game off. Millwall’s late goal is frustrating because Remi (Matthews) deserved a clean sheet, the whole team did.

“But after last week, getting beat at Swansea with two men sent off, it was one of the quietest coach journeys I have been involved in for quite some time.

“The week we have had again, to respond again, the dream is well and truly alive.
