London’s first sustainable food market awarded by Mayor

London’s first sustainable food market has just recognised as one of London’s leading employers helping the capital thrive after dark.
London’s Night Czar, Amy Lamé, visited Mercato Metropolitano in Newington Causeway, Elephant and Castle, on January 17, to present the market’s founder and chief executive, Andrea Rasca, with a Good Work Standard plaque.
The plaque acknowledges the employers’ efforts to improve the lives of those working and living in London and keeping the city thriving after dark.
The Mayor’s Good Work Standard sets the benchmark for the highest employment standards, recognising employers who are contributing to a fairer and more inclusive London.
Ms Rasca, said: “Since our inception we have worked to integrate with the local communities in which we operate to leverage the power of diversity and inclusion and create an environment where people feel empowered to be themselves, and enjoy delicious, nutritious food with one another regardless of one’s background, culture, or religion.”
Mercato Metropolitano proactively recruits underrepresented groups to reflect the diversity of London, and provides skills and training to support diverse groups into hospitality jobs, including working with the charity Springboard.
