Millwall boss Neil Harris explains reason for on-pitch huddle after impressive 2-0 win at Birmingham City

BY JAKE SANDERS

Neil Harris empathised Millwall’s unity in the squad after his side produced an impressive 2-0 victory at Birmingham on Wednesday.

A first-half brace from Ben Thompson eased the Lions’ relegation fears and moved them up to 19th in the Championship table – their first victory in five league matches.

“Tonight I picked a team that could compete with Birmingham and could cause them problems on the counter-attack,” said Lions boss Harris. “The lads were outstanding. Ben Thompson will get the plaudits, of course he will for the goals, but I think he will be the first to admit that the team itself was excellent.”

Asked why all players and coaching staff got together on the pitch at full-time – forming a circle – Harris said. “That was to show our solidarity, an opportunity to say well done to the players. Those are the standards we have set and we have got to keep them until the end of the season.

“It was to show that the fans, you guys and the fans that didn’t make it – that you can criticise us all you want but we are a strong group and we do our best for the club. At the end of the day, that’s all I can ask from my players.”
