Northampton tried to secure deadline day deal for Crystal Palace midfielder

Northampton wanted to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Jack Wells-Morrison on loan during deadline day – but the deal fell through before Thursday’s 11PM deadline, the South London Press understands.

The 19-year-old penned a new deal that has been extended until the end of the 2024-25 campaign – it would have been his first senior move away from Selhurst Park.

Jon Brady’s side are ninth in League One and 10 points off the play-off spots.

The Palace academy graduate was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award last campaign after recording 10 goal contributions – six goals and four assists.

Wells-Morrison, who has been capped by England at U18 level and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2021, was also nominated for November’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

He has a year left to go on his deal at Selhurst Park in the summer.
