London’s biggest food redistribution charity receives £500K boost

London’s biggest food redistribution charity is scaling up its operations across South London as demand for its services continue to soar.

The Felix Project will open a new depot in Deptford later this year, with a £500,000 donation from Amazon.

The funding will be spread across five years to cover the rent, utilities and recruitment of volunteers.

The Felix Project delivers free, fresh surplus food to those in need each week through more than 1,000 community organisations and primary schools.

With more than 650 charities on the waiting list, the group has said the new 11,900 sq ft depot is “critical”.

It will increase storage capacity by 25 per cent, with the charity expecting to deliver more than 35million meals in 2024.

Charlotte Hill, chief executive of The Felix Project, said: “With this additional cash donation, we’ll be able to grow our operations in South London, take organisations off our waiting list, and provide nutritious surplus food to those that need it most.”
