Charlton Athletic boss Jones on his decision to omit Conor Coventry and Louie Watson from matchday squad
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones left Conor Coventry and Louie Watson out of his matchday squad for last night’s 1-1 draw against Lincoln City.
The pair both started Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Reading.
Jones brought in George Dobson and Karoy Anderson to play in the midfield with Coventry and Watson both on running duty at The Valley before the League One match.
Coventry was signed from West Ham United in the January transfer window while Watson is on a season-long loan from Luton Town.
“They are just tactical decisions,” said Jones. “We have got a big squad and a lot of games coming up. People put in big shifts and not everyone will be able to do every week, so there will be some tough decisions.
“You will be asking me some question about one player this week and one player the next. Look, we can only pick 18. If I could pick 25 then brilliant – but we can’t.
“I’ve got some difficult decisions and difficult decisions week in and week out – but that’s what I get paid for.”
