London Overground names announced

The new names of six London Overground lines have been revealed, each with their own colour.

Last August, Transport for London (TfL) announced it wanted to give the routes distinct identities to make it easier for passengers to navigate the network.

The services will become known as the Lioness line, the Mildmay line, the Windrush line, the Weaver line, the Suffragette line and the Liberty line.

The Windrush line runs from Highbury and Islington to Clapham Junction, through New Cross, Crystal Palace and West Croydon.

Areas covered by the line have strong ties to Caribbean communities today, such as Dalston Junction, Peckham Rye and West Croydon.

The Windrush line will be represented as red parallel lines on the map.

Arthur Torrington, co-founder and director of the Windrush Foundation, said: “Windrush Foundation congratulates TfL for creating a new interest in travel on the Windrush line as part of the London Overground line naming project.

“We are reminded of the iconic journey of Empire Windrush and the contributions the Caribbean community have made to the capital over many decades.

“We are pleased to be recognised this way and look forward to seeing Londoners using the Windrush line.”
