‘Ridiculous’ – Johnnie Jackson laments Wimbledon’s defending for Crawley’s winner in defeat

Johnnie Jackson lamented the AFC Wimbledon’s defending as ridiculous for Crawley’s winner in their 1-0 victory at Plough Lane on Tuesday evening.

Crawley took the lead in the 78th minute when a long throw caused confusion in the Wimbledon penalty area and striker Danilo Orsi was left unmarked to open the scoring.

The Dons are now winless in their last three League Two outings and slipped down to ninth in the table.

“I’m annoyed and frustrated,” said Jackson.

“It was another game I felt got away from us.

“We had the outstanding chances in the night and haven’t taken them. We have been really sloppy in our own box and given them a goal.

“That has cost us. It’s really annoying.

“It’s ridiculous – it’s so, so soft.

“We don’t deal with the throw-in well enough – we don’t get that contact in the box and go big with our clearance.

“If you go sloppy like that, it can just fall to a lad who is three yards out. It’s a bad one.”

Josh Davison had a massive chance to give Wimbledon the lead in the 60th minute when he met Omar Bugie’s header back across goal, but somehow Crawley keeper Corey Addai kept the effort out at point-blank range.

The former Charlton boss added: “We have to score. We’re creating these openings that we’re not taking, and it’s costing us.

“I don’t see the other team creating an opening where they’re two or three yards out from our goal tonight.

“For us to be doing that regularly and not quite taking our chances is hard to take.

“It seemed like once we missed that second chance, it deflated us and we lost a little bit of belief.”
