Non-league round-up: Danny Mills doubles boosts Dulwich Hamlet’s play-off hopes
Dulwich Hamlet moved within three points of the Isthmian League Premier Division play-offs after a 4-2 win over Cheshunt on Saturday.
Hamlet raced into a 3-0 first-half lead with goals from Danny Mills, Jerome Binnom-Williams and Sean Bonnett-Johnson.
Antonis Vasiliou pulled one back before Mills scored his second of the night.
Cheshunt scored again with 11 minutes of normal time remaining through Nnamdi Nwachuku but Dulwich held on to secure their fourth win from their last five league outings.
“We said the result was probably more important than the performance,” Hamlet manager Hakan Hayrettin told the club’s YouTube channel.
“The first half was a tense affair but we scored three good goals. The fourth was sublime in the second half.
“What can we say about Danny? He’s a good frontman and leads the line really well – he’s a threat.
“We had 25 new players who had never played together before and question marks may have been asked at the start of the season. But the boys are flying.
“I have set them a target of what they need to do. I’ll keep that between me and the boys, but they’re on target.”
Dulwich head to bottom of the table Kingstonian tomorrow.
Welling United moved out of the National League South drop zone for the first time since August after a 3-2 win over fellow relegation candidates Truro City on Tuesday.
Danny Sullivan opened the scoring for Truro at Park View Road but quickfire goals from Colchester United loanee Gene Kennedy and Crawley loanee Sonny Fish in the second half put the Wings ahead.
Tyler Harvey equalised for Truro but Anthony Papadopoulos scored the winner 14 minutes before the end of normal time.
Welling are unbeaten in their last seven matches in National League South, with new boss Rod Stringer claiming six of those results since taking over from Danny Bloor.
“We haven’t got out of it until someone tells me that we can’t go down,” Stringer told Welling’s YouTube channel.
Bromley suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Eastleigh last weekend. The Ravens are 23 points off table toppers Chesterfield but remain second in the National League.

AFC Croydon Athletic are five points adrift of the Combined Counties League Premier Division South play-off spots.
