‘We couldn’t do this’ – Oliver Glasner left disappointed as Crystal Palace suffer 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was left disappointed his side were unable to produce a ‘perfect’ performance over the whole game as they suffered a late 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Eberechi Eze, on his first start under the Austrian manager, opened the scoring with a sublime free-kick in the 59th minute.

Spurs eventually found their equaliser in the 77th minute when Brennan Johnson capitalised on a mistake from Joachim Andersen and slotted the ball along the face of goal for Timo Werner to score.

Cristian Romero put Spurs ahead three minutes later when he outjumped Joel Ward to head James Maddison’s lofted ball towards the back post.

Hueng-Min Son wrapped up the game in the 88th minute when he raced through on goal to slot past Sam Johnstone.

It was the first defeat Palace have suffered under the former Wolfsburg boss.

“The players did a great job over 60 to 70 minutes,” said Glasner.

“They stuck to the plan and defended really well for most of the time.

“We could have been a bit more confident in possession, but then we scored a very nice goal.

“But in the end, to win at Tottenham, you must play almost perfectly over the whole distance of the game.

“We couldn’t do this today – we have to accept it.

“We will work on it so we can keep this level high for the whole distance of the game.

“We’re disappointed today. I had the feeling before they equalised that we could win the game

“But this changes in football – one situation can switch the game.”
