Nathan Jones issues update on Chuks Aneke’s fitness after striker missed Charlton’s draw at Northampton

Nathan Jones says that Chuks Aneke missed out on Saturday’s trip to Northampton due to stiffness in his calf.

The Addicks forward has been absent for large chunks of this campaign and others during his Charlton career but has provided some real impetus from the bench in the last four League One outings.

But he was not involved in the matchday squad for the 1-1 draw at Sixfields.

Jones said: “He felt his calf was stiff after Tuesday night [at Derby]. There was no point risking him, because we want him ready for Tuesday [at Cheltenham].”

Tennai Watson was withdrawn after receiving treatment on the field midway through the second-half in Northamptonshire.

Jones added: “He’s going through it. He stiffens up. We know we’re going to get 70 out of him and then we need to see from there. That’s why we put Nathan Asiimwe on the bench – because we knew we might need him.”
