Women’s football round-up: Charlton slip up against London City at The Valley as Palace close gap in front of record Selhurst Park crowd

Charlton Women squandered the chance to give themselves a stronger shout of lifting the Championship title as they conceded two late goals against London City Lionesses on Sunday.

Mel Filis opened the scoring for the Addicks after five minutes in front of a Valley crowd of 1,315 – the biggest attendance the women have had at a match.

But Lotta Lindstrom and Jessica Gray scored in the 89th and 95th minutes as Karen Hills’ side suffered their second defeat in five outings.

Charlton are fifth in the table and four points behind table-toppers Sunderland. The Addicks do have a game in hand over the Black Cats, but so do second-placed Crystal Palace.

The Eagles moved within a point of Sunderland after a convincing 3-0 win over Watford in front of a record-breaking 5,566 Selhurst Park crowd.

Palace bounced back from their 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United last time out with Molly-Mae Sharpe putting the hosts ahead after four minutes. Ria Percival quickly doubled the lead with a shot from the edge of the box.

Annabel Blanchard wrapped up the scoring in the 58th minute.

Palace face Sunderland on the final day in a game which could decide where the silverware is heading.

AFC Wimbledon put themselves within touching distance of claiming the National League Division One South East title after a rampant 6-0 win over Cambridge City.

Goals from Ashlee Hincks and Hannah Mackenzie gave the Dons a 2-0 lead before half-time.

Ellie Dorey, Breon Grant, Hincks and Rosie Russell all got on the scoresheet in the second half.

The Dons are 10 points clear of second-place Norwich, who have two games in hand. Wimbledon play Norwich on Sunday.

Millwall Lionesses lost 3-0 against Ebbsfleet United on Sunday afternoon.

Amy Russ, Logan O’Shea and Charley Clifford all scored for the home side. Millwall are without a win in their last six games.
