Millwall handed double striker boost as keeper Sarkic maintains strong form with international clean sheet

Millwall head coach Neil Harris has delivered positive news on rehabbing striker duo Kevin Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw.

Both frontmen are working their way back from injuries.

Summer signing Nisbet suffered what was described as a “fairly significant” hamstring injury at the start of February.

Wales international Bradshaw suffered an achilles tear at the start of this month, with initial fears that he would not return before the Championship season was completed.

But Harris told the South London Press yesterday that there was optimism both would be able to contribute in the run-in.

“Bradders and Nizzy are both back on the grass,” said the Lions boss.

“Bradders we are hoping to have back for the Cardiff game on April 13 – back involved in the matchday squad – and Kevin Nisbet the weekend after.

“We are looking to push for the Sunderland game on April 20 that he might be involved in that. Both are desperate to be involved and both want to get back, even if the involvement is off the bench until the end of the season.

“They are the timeframes we have set the players, to try and give them a target and a goal. We are not going to just be held to that if they are a few days late. Ultimately we need to push the lads, and the lads want to push themselves, to be back as quickly as possible to help the cause.”

Harris is also waiting for some of Millwall’s international players to return to Calmont Road.

“I stayed in touch with the lads,” he said. “Matty (Sarkic) is back in the group today (Wednesday) because he played and kept a clean sheet for Montenegro on Monday evening. Delighted for him. He has come back in really good spirits. He has played very well for me but also he had a clean sheet representing his nation – he’s a very proud man to have done that.

“Brooke (Norton-Cuffy) has played some minutes in two games for England U21s in a very talented group at the moment. He comes back better for the experience.

“Sav (George Saville) has struggled with Northern Ireland with a calf issue and we’ll have to look at what his involvement is over the Easter weekend period.

“Michael Obafemi has been away with Ireland. He didn’t add to his tally of caps but just being around the squad is a fantastic achievement. He will come back hopefully in one piece on Thursday and ready and raring to go.”
