Appeals one week on from fatal West Kensington shooting

Police investigating the murder of a man in West Kensington continue to appeal for witnesses and information one week on from the fatal shooting.

Janayo Lucima, 21, died following a shooting in Comeragh Road at around 10.15pm on Easter Monday.

Cops returned to the scene yesterday evening to distribute leaflets as the trawl for information continued.

The appeal comes as a 22-year-old man appeared in court charged with Janayo’s murder.

The investigation was launched after police were called following reports of a disturbance and shooting at a residential address in Comeragh Road.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found Janayo injured at the scene. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead shortly before 11pm.

A post-mortem examination took place on Wednesday last week and gave cause of death as a gunshot injury.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, leading the investigation, said: “Despite the progress we have made in terms of the charge and arrests, this is still very much a live and ongoing investigation and we need the public’s assistance.

“We know there was a group of males, on foot or on a bike, in the area at the time of the shooting – we need to trace these people and I would ask anyone who has information that could help us, and has yet to get in contact to please do so with urgency.

“Were you in the area of Comeragh Road, Barton Road and Palliser Road towards Barons Court Tube Station between 9.40pm and 10.30pm?

“This continues to be a fast-paced and complex investigation as we work tirelessly to identify all those responsible for Janayo’s murder and provide family with the answers they deserve.”
