Crystal Palace team news ahead of Newcastle: Defender ruled out after making injury return

BY DIANA MORAIS

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Rob Holding has picked up a hamstring injury and will miss Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against Newcastle.

The 28-year-old had only just returned from ankle surgery for the Eagles in the 5-2 win over West Ham on Sunday.

It was his first inclusion in a Premier League matchday squad since the 2-1 defeat at Luton in November.

Adam Wharton will be fit for the game at Selhurst Park after coming off early in the second half against the Hammers.

“Unfortunately, Rob Holding is injured again,” said Glasner.

“It’s tough because he was just back from an injury.

“We don’t know the degree, but it’s something with his hamstring.

“We don’t know how long it takes, but he will miss at least definitely tomorrow’s game and the game on Saturday against Fulham, It’s bad news, but all of the other players are fit,

“For all of us, and especially for him, when you come back after a long injury and then work so hard and he was so happy training with the team.

“Sometimes, it happens when you’re not used to team training – your body is not used to it – and we have to accept and learn from it so that it doesn’t happen again.”
