Crystal Palace attacker set for Olympics squad inclusion – with striker under consideration by Thierry Henry
Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise looks set to be included in the France squad for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The South London Press also understands that striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is under consideration by boss Thierry Henry as one of the three over 23 players allowed in the squad.
Olise and Mateta missed out on Didier Deschamps’ 25-man squad for Euro 2024, with Kylian Mbappe, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, Kingsley Coman, Marcus Thuram, Randal Kolo Muani and Olivier Giroud all included in the attacking options.
Ex-Manchester City and Chelsea youngster Olise, who also qualifies to play for Algeria, Nigeria and England, has 15 goal contributions in 18 Premier League outings this season.
Mateta has recorded 20 goal contributions this season across all competitions, becoming the first Palace player since promotion in 2013 to record that accolade.
The 26-year-old has represented France at U19 and U21 level.
Olise played for France’s U21 side at last summer’s European Championship, where he suffered a grade three hamstring tear.
Host country France have been drawn in Group A alongside the USA, New Zealand and Guinea.
The tournament will take place from July 24 to August 10.
