Former Dons boss named head coach of League One side

Former AFC Wimbledon boss Mark Robinson has been named the head coach of League One side Burton Albion.

The 57-year-old has left his role as head coach of Chelsea’s development squad to replace Martin Paterson at The Pirelli Stadium.

Robinson, who reshaped Wimbledon’s academy and took up various roles at the club before being made head coach of the first team in February 2021, played a crucial role in the likes of Ayoub Assal, Will Nightingale, Anthony Hartigan, Paul Osew, Jack Rudoni and Paul Kalambayi all playing for Wimbledon’s first team.

He left the Dons in March 2022 after a culmination of injuries and youthful recruitment left the club tumbling towards the League One drop zone.

As boss of Chelsea’s under-21 side, he guided them to two top-four finishes in the Premier League 2 table.

Long-serving Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson recently sold his majority stake in the club to Swedish-based Nordic Football Group.
