Rohan Trotman killing: Man, 19, convicted of murdering young father
A 19-year-old has been convicted of murder after a brutal stabbing left a young father to die in hospital in June last year.
Yusuf Kallon, 19, of Marmont Road, Peckham, was convicted of murder and two counts of robbery on Monday. He will be sentenced on June 28.
Rohan Trotman, 26, was killed in Nunhead Green, on the evening of June 25.
Police were called at around 9.20pm to reports of a stabbing in Nunhead Green, near to the junction with Gordon Road, Peckham.
Mr Trotman had suffered stab wounds and had been taken to hospital by a member of the public.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died in hospital at 9.30am the following morning.
The court heard that Mr Trotman had been cycling home from Croydon on his new electric bike, when he was attacked by Kallon and another man, who fled the country shortly afterwards.
Officers investigating the stabbing arrested and charged Kallon within two weeks of the killing.
A jury heard how Kallon was identified on CCTV footage dumping his phone shortly after the murder.
Police also revealed that Kallon was making plans to leave the country by making credit card payments to a holiday company in Spain, booking a flight to Sierra Leone and paying for a new fast-tracked passport.
Kallon’s accomplice fled the UK before police could link him to the murder and make an arrest.
Both had committed a robbery earlier that day, shortly before the murder, stealing a motorbike from the Waterloo area.
Kallon was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon but he was found not guilty.
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, who led the investigation, said: “Rohan was a much loved son, partner, and brother. Put simply, he was killed by Kallon for his new electric bike in a senseless attack that has devastated a family.
“I am glad that the jury saw through Kallon’s lies, and I would like to thank my team for their diligent work which allowed clear and incontrovertible evidence to be shown in court.
“My thoughts and condolences remain with Rohan’s family, and I hope they can find some small measure of comfort in Kallon’s conviction.”
