Croydon-based boxing club enjoys success at 2024 Capital Cup
Croydon’s Impact Boxing Club had two champions at the 2024 Capital Cup.
Razvan Molocea won the male 2007 under-63.5kgs category.
He won a unanimous points decision in his semi-final bout and final – both against more experienced opposition.
Coach Victor Jennings said: “Razvan is capping off a much-improved season in his development and growth as an amateur boxer, paving the way to fulfilling his pro boxing aspirations.
“He is the most improved boxer in the gym over the last 12-18 months – adopting a new mindset, being receptive to a more effective way of boxing and appreciating the sweet science of boxing and the art of ‘hitting and not getting hit’.
“In his preparations for his first major championships, he has been boxing a lot better behind his jab and utilising his awkward southpaw stance – getting a number of stoppages at several gym shows, giving him the much needed self-belief and confidence that he will continue this amazing and exciting trajectory in the amateur ranks.”
Junior Eyenga captured his second amateur championship trophy after winning the London Championships earlier in the year in the male under-71kgs category.
Jennings said: “He boxed three times over a course of three gruelling days during the most recent May Bank holiday with a first-round stoppage in the quarter-finals, a second-round stoppage in the semi-finals and a comfortable unanimous decision in the final.
“Despite the very impressive manner of his triumph, he was rather despondent, suggesting he could have won in an even better fashion.
“This is just a testament to his character, as he is always grounded, humble and will retain his personal traits until England Boxing comes calling as part of many stepping stones in a very exciting future champion.
“He is looking to replicate this success in the new season and enter into the elite championships to test him against the best in his weight in England.”
