Mees Rottgering (Ned) bt Kaylan Bigun (USA, 1) 7-6, 6-3
Big-serving American and top seed Kaylan Bigun was beaten in straight sets by Holland’s Mees Rottgering in the quarter-finals of the Boys’ Singles today.
Rottgering, one year Bigun’s junRottgering, one year Bigun’s junior at just 17, could hardly contain his emotions after shocking the American 7-6,6-3 in front of a healthy crowd on No.12 Court.

Bigun’s huge serve looked as though it may simply overpower the Dutchman in the early stages of this match, and Rottgering’s serve was the first in danger – when he was forced to save two break-points at 2-3 in the first set.
Both lefties held serve from there on, but Rottgering took control of the tie-break when Bigun hit a simple forehand wide at 2-2.
Rottgering then held his next two points to move 5-2 up before taking a second mini-break for 6-2 when Bigun netted after being pushed around the court by his opponent.
Bigun saved one break-point but then hit long to hand Rottgering the set.

Bigun was starting to make more and more unforced errors and hit another relatively simple forehand wide to give Rottgering the advantage at 3-1 in the second set – and from there on both players held serve – Rottgering to love in the final game as Bigun hit a backhand slice wide.
