Brixton football festival celebrates young talent and community spirit

A football festival for a clutch of primary schools was voted a great success – with youngsters from Bonneville Primary emerging victorious.

Hosted by Ark Evelyn Grace Academy, a secondary school in Shakespeare Road, Brixton, the event brought Year 5 and 6 pupils together for a day of sporting camaraderie and skill-building.

The competing schools were Bonneville Primary, Bonneville Gardens, Clapham; Jubilee Primary, Tulse Hill; Judith Kerr, Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill, and Richard Atkins Primary, New Park Road, Brixton.

The event was the result of an ongoing collaboration between Ark Evelyn Grace and Arsenal FC – one that aims to support the local community and nurture young talent.

The event started with an invigorating warm-up session led by Arsenal academy coaches. It was followed by lively matches showcasing the children’s talents. Every child participating received a commemorative medal.

The festival’s highlight was a thrilling final in which saw Bonneville claimed a 3-0 win.

Una Sookun, the Principal of Ark Evelyn Grace, added: “The festival was a fun experience. It also showed the power of sports in uniting communities and providing invaluable opportunities for children.”
