Millwall’s Zian Flemming and Murray Wallace will miss start to Championship season
Zian Flemming and Murray Wallace will miss the start of Millwall’s Championship season.
The duo both sat out today’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Southampton at The Den.
Flemming, the subject of a number of bids from Burnley in the last summer transfer window, was sent for a scan on a calf injury earlier this week.
Millwall are also without Billy Mitchell (quad). The midfielder will also not be available to face Watford next Saturday in SE16.
“Zian will certainly miss the first week of the season – he’s certainly going to miss the first seven days of the season and maybe the game after against Hull,” said Lions head coach Neil Harris. “We’ll have to wait and see. He’s certainly going to be back after the international break, it’s just whether we can get him involved before that.
“It is the same calf issue. We’ve seen the specialist and he has an abnormal calf, which is quite bizarre and bloody unlucky for us! I can’t quite believe it. I wouldn’t say one in a million but a real random one – it’s nothing he’s done or we’ve done. .
“He’s just got to be really careful with that calf. Ultimately we want Zian fit. If he misses the first three or four games we need him fit for the next 50 games during the season, in league and cup. If we have to be a little bit slower than we have to be respectful of that.
“It’s a very random one.
“Murray will be missing for the next few weeks. Again we might see Murray before the international break, we might not.”
Millwall confirmed on Friday that young defender Niino Adom-Malaki suffered a serious knee injury against Real Murcia.
“He will miss the majority, if not all, of the season,” said Harris. “It’s a big blow for us but also the young man, who is developing fine.
“We’ll give him the best support and attention we can give him, and look forward to welcoming him back on the training pitch, probably not until March.”
