Non-league round-up: Hayrettin apologises to Dulwich fans after Whitehawk draw
Hakan Hayrettin said sorry to Dulwich Hamlet’s fans after their 3-3 home draw against Whitehawk on Saturday.
Danny Mills scored in each half to cancel out Charlie Lambert’s early opener at Champion Hill.
The experienced frontman’s first was his 200th career goals.
But goals from Charlie Walker and Emmanuel Mensah put the visitors ahead with 13 minutes remaining of the Isthmian League Premier Division contest.
Luke Wanadio levelled in the 84th minute, atoning for a penalty miss in the first period.
“First of all we need to apologise to our supporters because that is nowhere near to what we expect to see at Champion Hill,” said Dulwich boss Hayrettin.
“I can’t accept that and neither should they. Even though we scored three goals we let the fans down. It’s not good enough and I told them (the players) in no uncertain terms that they need to do better if they want to represent this football club.
“There was a lethargy about us in the first 20-25 minutes and that is not what we expect to see.
“We didn’t lose the game and missed a penalty, so we could’ve won 4-3. The defending for the third goal was way off it and it was for the first one as well – if you give anyone, even at this level, time then they can hurt you. They were two nothing goals, because we didn’t work hard enough to stop them but, on the other hand, we’re always liable to score.
“Danny is a great character and does everything in the right way. I’m chuffed for him.”
Dulwich head to Chatham Town tomorrow and then face Cray Wanderers on Monday.
Former Hamlet winger Nyren Clunis scored for the Wands as they went down 3-1 at Hendon on Saturday. His goal only proved a consolation after Joe White, Shaun Lucien and Kai Omoko Brosnan netted inside the opening 50 minutes at Silver Jubilee Park.
Cray Valley PM are adapting nicely to life in the Isthmian League Premier and won 4-2 against Cheshunt on Saturday.
Steve McKimm’s side, who claimed the Isthmian League South East Division title last season, are fourth in the early standings.
They led 3-0 at the interval with Danny Waldren, Freddie Parker and Ali Tumkaya on target.
Parker added another soon after the restart before Cheshunt’s Darion Furlong and Taylor Curran added some respectability to the scoreline.
The Millers go to Folkestone Invicta tomorrow before hosting Carshalton Athletic.
Tooting & Mitcham lost 2-0 at AFC Whyteleafe in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South.
