Crystal Palace boss outlines how many signings are needed as transfer window enters final week
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has revealed he wants at least two more signings this summer.
The Eagles have lost Joachim Andersen to Premier League rivals Fulham and Jordan Ayew has completed his switch to Leicester.
Our paper revealed that Palace had agreed an £8million fee with Leicester for Ayew, with the 32-year-old having a medical ahead of a permanent switch on Thursday.
Fulham completed their £30million deal Andersen on Friday afternoon.
Ayew was announced as a Leicester player on Friday evening.
Michael Olise was also sold to Bayern Munich for a fee in the region of £50million
Youngsters David Ozoh and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have both headed out on loan to the Championship this summer.
James Tomkins and Jairo Riedewald were both released at the end of last season.
Daichi Kamada, Ismaila Sarr and Chadi Riad have all joined.
“It’s just a little bit of mathematics,” said Glasner when asked how many players he would like to bring in before the window shuts on August 30.
“We have Jes and David out on loan. We didn’t extend Jairo’s and Tomkins’ contract.
“We sold one – maybe two more. We have lost seven of the squad, and we have brought in three.
“That doesn’t mean that we need four more, but it’s clear that we have to get at least two more players into the squad.”
Ayew made 212 appearances for the South Londoners, scoring 23 times and picking up 22 assists in all competitions.
The Danish defender turned out 113 times for the Eagles since joining from Lyon in 2021 but is set for a huge pay hike with his move back to Craven Cottage.
Our paper understands that Andersen’s new Fulham deal takes him comfortably into six figures – a fee that would have made him Palace’s highest earner if they wanted to match it.
Glasner added: “For me, the most important thing is the players. No deal will happen unless the player says yes.
“We want every single player who is here to say: ‘I want to be a part of this group. I want to be a part of this journey.’
“If a player says they want to leave for whatever reason – sports, better club, more money or family. If a player says: ‘Maybe it’s not, at this time, the right club for me – I would like to change something.’
“Then it’s up to him and the club to find a solution. I want players who want to be a part of Crystal Palace.
“If Crystal Palace find an agreement with the other club and they [the player] say: ‘I would like to go there,’ then it happens.
“It makes no sense to say: ‘No, you’re not allowed to go,’ if they want.”
