Cifuentes satisfied with QPR performance in frustrating Plymouth draw

Marti Cifuentes believed QPR performed well enough to earn all three points in their 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle.

Rangers were left to settle for a frustrating draw against an Argyle side that finished the game with nine men despite taking an early lead through Michael Frey.

Cifuentes’ side dominated the second half following Adam Forshaw’s red card just moments after Morgan Whittaker had equalised, but they were unable to find a winning goal.

“Only getting one point from a game like this is not enough,” said the QPR head coach.

“At the same time, I’m happy about some parts of the performance, particularly the start of the game.

“I think we started brilliantly. Not only because of the goal but because we got a clear goal chance as well.

“At half-time, we adjusted some things and attacked much better. Their goalkeeper was outstanding. And every minute that goes, Plymouth get more energy.

“The last 10 or 15 minutes was too emotional and not the way we should attack.”

After falling to a 3-1 defeat in their opening home game against West Brom, this is the second time this season that QPR have failed to make the most of taking an early lead.Plymouth controlled possession following Frey’s near-post header, with Rangers struggling to build on their early momentum.

Cifuentes was not overly concerned by what he saw, though.

“[It is] an area to improve not a concern,” he said.

“There is no time to be concerned. My concern would be if we were a team that looked like it didn’t know what it is trying to do.

“It is something that we need to adjust. There is a lot of new faces as well.

“The small second or half second that you are late when pressing is enough against good players [to be costly]. It just takes time, it’s about relations.

“Today we started with Kady [Dembele] at No 10, [Nicolas] Madsen in an important role as No 8. It’s about glueing together those pieces as soon as possible.”
