‘I’m excited’ – Millwall boss Neil Harris on Owls clash and wanting return to ‘outstanding’ Den results

Millwall head coach Neil Harris says he is “excited” by the chance for his side to play at The Den again on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Lions were excellent on home turf once their all-time record goalscorer replaced Joe Edwards in the dugout last season – producing six wins and one draw. Prior to that they had winless in their last five in all competitions there, losing four of them.

Millwall have successive home fixtures ahead of them with the Luton Town match on September 14 the other side of the international break.

The Lions have been defeated in their two matches at The Den this season. Harris made eight changes for the EFL Cup tie in midweek against Leyton Orient – intent on minutes for some players who had not seen loads of action – and lost 3-2 to Watford on the opening day.

Millwall are set to be depleted in attack with Tom Bradshaw set for a scan today to determine the extent of his hamstring injury.

“I’m excited – what a great opportunity for a Millwall squad,” Harris told the South London Press, when asked about this weekend’s match. “Chest out, shoulders back – turn up in a brilliant atmosphere and have a right go at a big football club in Sheffield Wednesday.

“We played really well in three league games and deserved more than a point – but the fact is we haven’t got more than a point. We are desperate to get our first win of the season, to get up and running at The Den.

“I was disappointed last time out in the league, against Watford, on such a brilliant occasion to lose on virtually the last kick of the game. We want to put that right quickly.

“The form at the back end of last season at The Den was miraculous and outstanding, that was credit to the players and the fanbase, for the atmosphere in the stadium. I look forward to that again.

“I look forward to my players handle the excitement and anticipation of playing at The Den. I look forward to the fans getting behind the players. Our success last season was built around the club togetherness and I’m excited about seeing that at the weekend.”
