Fortnightly free gig series announced at Southbank Centre

In a move to champion London’s emerging artists and communities, an incredible lineup of performances is coming to the South Bank for a fortnightly free gig series.

The Southbank Centre has partnered up once again with BBC Introducing for futuretense, an initiative that aims to support emerging artists, whilst providing a space for everyone to experience live music entirely for free.

The latest programme hosted in the Southbank Centres, Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer, kicks off with Saint Joshua on September 19.

South London based pop and R&B singer-songwriter, Mr Joshua released his latest single Sweet Talk this month alongside his long-time collaborator, Pearse Macintyre.

After stepping into the spotlight with his track Palo Santo which reached critical acclaim, Mr Joshua has gone on to release three further EPs, captivating music listeners with more than 14.5million streams, and leading to a sold out debut London show last year.

Next up, Toby Corton will take to the stage on October 10. The East Londoner whose music is filled with soulful style has performed to sold-out gigs for headline shows at Servant Jazz Quarters, The Windmill Brixton and The Roundhouse.

Alongside his music career, Toby is a photographer and co-founder of Sounds Queer, an organisation that aims to create safe live music spaces, from and for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Other highlights include sets from Nuha Ruby Ra, touted as one of the most exciting and provocative new acts in the UK, on November 21, and the unconventional compositions of Isaiah Shoticaury on December 5.

Previous runs of  futuretense have booked artists including Erika De Casier, Wu-Lu, Ego Ella May, Lex Amor, and more.
