Oliver Glasner confirms Marc Guehi’s Crystal Palace future – with Newcastle missing out on valuation

Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Marc Guehi will be a Crystal Palace player at the end of Friday’s transfer deadline.

Newcastle submitted multiple bids for the England defender but failed to meet Palace’s £75million valuation.

Guehi has started and captained the Eagles in both of their Premier League outings so far and also played the full 90 minutes in the 4-0 EFL Cup win over Norwich on Tuesday night.

The Eagles upped their valuation in the final week of the window to a club record £75million and fellow defender Chadi Riad is expected to be out for up to two months with an MCL injury.

“Yes I can confirm,” said Glasner when asked if Guehi will be a Palace player at the end of the window.

“I was never really in any doubt.

“Congratulations to Crystal Palace. To the chairman, to the owners – to everyone – that they didn’t give in.

“Especially after the transfer of Joachim Andersen, it was very important that Marc stays.

“Thank you to Marc. We were always very close and talked a lot. The rumours didn’t influence his performance, mood or professionalism.

“He was not pushing to leave Crystal Palace and that’s the most important thing.

“Marc told me very often. Sometimes, people tell and act in an opposite way. Marc told me and acted in the same way.

“It really showed their fantastic character again. If the club doesn’t give in and the player doesn’t push too hard, then that’s how it is. Marc Guehi stays a Crystal Palace player and our captain.”
