Former Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic defender makes non-league move at 34

Former Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic defender Pape Souare has joined Isthmian League South East Division side AFC Croydon Athletic.

The non-league side – owned by Eagles legend Wilfried Zaha and Stormzy – have also convinced former Palace players Nya Kirby, Brandon Pierrick and David Omilabu to join at the Mayfield Stadium.

Souare featured 48 times at Selhurst Park and nine times while at Charlton.

The 34-year-old has 22 Senegal caps to his name and had a spell with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Souare joined Palace from Lille in January 2015 and played the full 120 minutes in the FA Cup final 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in 2016.
