Man dies after fire spreads through block of flats 

A man died in a fire in a block of flats yesterday morning.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters responded to the blaze at around 5am in a three-floor block of flats in King James Street, Southwark.

Three rooms on the third floor were completely destroyed in the fire, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

A man was declared dead at the scene.

Crews rescued a second resident from the building, and four other people managed to escape before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from Dockhead, Old Kent Road, Soho and surrounding fire stations brought the blaze under control by around 7.20am.

The fire is under investigation by the LFB and the Met.
