Serbian FA confirm that Millwall’s new record signing Mihailo Ivanovic will not feature in Nations League matches
The Serbian FA have confirmed that Millwall’s new record signing Mihailo Ivanovic will not be involved in their upcoming Nations League matches.
The Lions were unhappy that the 19-year-old striker, who they splashed more than £2.5million on to snap up from Vojvodina on deadline day, had been asked to travel by his country despite a foot injury flagged up on their medical tests before he put pen to paper.
Millwall supplied the Serbian FA with their findings but Ivanovic still made the journey back home and had been pictured in training ahead of their fixture tonight against Spain.
The Serbian FA posted on social media platform X today: “After a thorough analysis, detailed medical examinations by the medical team of our national team and in agreement with Millwall, Mihailo Ivanovic will not be available to coach Dragan Stojkovic for the matches against Spain and Denmark due to a foot and hamstring injury.”
Lions head coach Neil Harris had revealed on Saturday that Ivanovic could be facing two months out before he is available to the Championship outfit.
When the frontman was then away with Serbia it led to bewilderment from the club’s supporters.
Millwall had issued their own statement on X yesterday. It said: “We are proud that Mihailo Ivanović’s talent and hard work has been recognised to represent Serbia’s national team at just 19 years old.
“Mihailo was identified earlier this summer as a player with incredible potential, and we are delighted to have signed him on a long-term contract.
“During a series of extensive medical tests, the club identified a potential short-term metatarsal injury which could be managed in London with the best care.
“Our medical team is of the belief that a period of rehabilitation is in the best interests of Mihailo, and knows his national team will take great care of him.
“The club remain in constant contact with the Serbian FA. We wish Mihailo the very best during his first of many call-ups to the international team, and look forward to seeing him in a Millwall shirt over the coming months.”
