Firefighters tackle blaze at Southwark recycling facility

About 20 tonnes of waste was destroyed after a fire spread throughout a recycling centre in the early hours this morning.

Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters tackled the blaze at the waste recycling plant in Devon Street, Southwark.

There are no reports of any injuries, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

The LFB was called at around 2.15am and firefighters brought the fire under control by around 5am. 

Crews from Old Kent Road, New Cross, Peckham and Dockhead fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the LFB.
