‘It felt good’ – Johnnie Jackson delivers verdict as AFC Wimbledon breeze past Milton Keynes to 3-0 victory

AFC Wimbledon manager Johinne Jackson expressed his delight after his team delivered an impressive performance to comfortably defeat rivals Milton Keynes at Plough Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The 3-0 victory was Wimbledon’s fourth victory in five League Two games this season and moved the Dons to the top of the League Two table before the 3pm kick-offs.

Myles Hippolyte opened the scoring for the home side in the 11th minute, and substitute Callum Maycock sealed the win with two goals late on in the second half, ensuring a comprehensive result for Jackson’s side.

After the match, Jackson praised his players for their focus and determination, saying: “It felt good because of the significance of the game. It felt good because it’s another three points on our road.

“Our objective is bigger than just today – we want to get out of the league. Today, it was important that we added to our tally. It obviously puts us in a good position.”

Jackson commended the impact of his substitutes, singling out Maycock’s late heroics but highlighted the contributions of the entire squad.

He added: “I thought the subs were brilliant today, the way that they were ready, and they came on and impacted the game and got us over the line. Callum will get the applause, rightly so, for his two goals. But all the boys we used, all five, had such a positive impact. We can’t do that without the group.”

While pleased with the result, Jackson stressed the importance of staying grounded as the season progresses. “It’s a good result. I think we can be better. We’re obviously always striving for improvement. We’re not going to pat ourselves on the back and think we’ve cracked something because football brings you back down to earth quickly. We go to Bradford, away next week, and that’s a tough place to go.

“We will enjoy today, but it’s another three points. There are 41 games to go. Our season won’t be defined by today, but it’s certainly a good step in the right direction.”
