Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen makes Adama Traore claim after Fulham’s loss at Man City
Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen reckons Fulham winger Adama Traore would be playing for Real Madrid if he could deliver more end product, writes Edmund Brack.
The ex-Wolves wide attacker missed three glorious chances during the west London club’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday.
Andreas Pereira had put the Whites ahead in the Premier League contest with fellow Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz also finding the back of the net.
Traore beat Rico Lewis for pace in the first half but fired his shot at keeper Ederson when played clean through.
The 28-year-old missed a similar chance in the second half after he outpaced Kyle Walker in a foot race.
City boss Pep Guardiola said: “Adama was unstoppable in that game. We couldn’t control when he had the ball. You have to defend in your 18-yard box.”
Michael Owen, a 2001 Ballon D’or winner, told Premier League Productions: “If he could finish then he’d still be at Barcelona, or at Real Madrid or Manchester City – because he’s got attributes that you just can’t give.
“The pace of him against Kyle Walker, it’s incredible. If he had an end product, he wouldn’t be playing for Fulham, with all due respect.
“Fulham are a brave team, the way they play. I didn’t think they’d be overawed by going to Manchester City.
“The quality eventually told, but I always thought Fulham would give them a game and I expected them to get chances.
“If they’d have taken even one of those Traore chances, it would’ve been a different story.’
